Pearson Island is an island located in the Australian state of South Australia within the Pearson Isles an island group located in the larger group known as the Investigator Group about 63 kilometres southwest by west of Cape Finniss on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula. Great Australian Bight.
Pearson black footed rock wallaby. These hardy little fellows are a sub species of the mainland black – footed rock wallaby. As Pearson Island was separated from the mainland some 10,000 years ago, creating an isolated breeding colony. Nowadays, some wallaby’s have been translocated to neighbouring islands such as Thistle Island where I found a couple of skulls from a few that didn’t make it. These islands don’t have a freshwater source, so the wallaby’s only get water from puddles if it rains, or from the food that they eat, which is pretty dry scrub on these harsh islands in South Australia. #pearsonisland #rockwallaby #conservation #southaustralia #seesouthaustralia
